Fantastic Finds in Lake Arrowhead, Great Weekend in Big Bear!

Jason and I had a perfect weekend in Big Bear.  We did absolutely anything and everything we wanted including doing nothing at all.  It is really special to come back to a place one year later and realize how close you and your spouse have become within that year.  Absolutely one of the most special weekends.  So simple, yet charming.

This weekend was so jam packed I am only going to blog about Saturday's finds in Lake Arrowhead today!  Tomorrow is allllll about the quilt show and the quilt bonanza I found myself in while being in Big Bear.

We drove up Saturday morning with the intention to check out Lake Arrowhead since neither of has had been since we were kids.  Wouldn’t you know it that it was YARD SALE WEEKEND?!  We seized the opportunity to drive through the neighborhood and putz around, look at strange things and meet the community.  We had a blast!  I had some really great opportunities to meet people and hear their stories.

We met a lovely older couple at an estate sale where I bought these Antique Finished Die Cast Miniature pencil sharpeners.  She told me really of her life after I had told her that I was pregnant and my aspirations for the near future.  I think she found a little of herself in me and shared stories of herself being at home, raising four kids, owning a ceramic business for 13 years.  She advised me of her ups and downs with building a small business.  She also told me that if you have the passion you will rarely remember to tell people you actually “work” from home because you love it so much.  I found her very inspiring.  She and her husband want to eventually get rid of her collection of great quality records from the ‘50s and she had me leave my name and number for when she does.  She was a lovely woman.

We found another great yard sale where I purchased a Mark Twain book and was blessed with someone else’s story.

His garage had 2/3 of a wall designated to this organization system.  He was in the navy for 4 years in the 50s and when he got back he decided to organize his small garage items with their used baby food jars.  He has each jar labeled so he knows exactly where to put it back to each and every time.  He said he has it like this way since the ‘60s.

I thought he was great!  I told him I was going to blog about him and he asked if we would like him to take our picture!

I also found some really great fabric at another sale deeper into Arrowhead.  A lot of the sale’s items were overpriced.  I was fortunate enough to find some great fabric.  I bought a few packages of the vintage fabric  that I found myself unable to live without.

I found another sale where a woman was selling about 8 yards of fabric, which I purchased for $5.  This is perfect to use as practice material!   As soon as I could the next day I checked out just how much fabric did I end up buying.

That woman also had a lot of tea pots...  I wanted to ask if she celebrated her half birthday, but she wasn't too friendly so I passed.

At a beautiful house further into Lake Arrowhead I picked a matching pair of vintage embroidered linen that really only need a quick wash.  (Check out my maternity shorts...super comf.)

One of my favorite items purchased this trip was this Stuart Little book.  It has 2 minor tears at the top of the sleeve on each side.  It is really hard to find older printed books with the sleeve, let alone with the sleeve in perfect condition.  I was very pleased to find the book in great condition and the sleeve to be in pretty fair shape.  The woman who sold this to me had the coolest glasses on.  They were large, vintage, and dark leopard.  I wish I had taken a picture of her.  They were a couple that looked like this was their home they retired in after having lived some rough but edgy days in Los Angeles.

One last blab about some of my finds were these adorable, maybe used once, baby clothes… So cute!  I bought each for $1.  The chucks need some love, but they are barely worn.  Jason snagged those up – he loves babies in chucks!

We loved the American Pride Lake Arrowhead represented.

And their outrageously beautiful homes.

Like I said it was a GREAT weekend.  Come back tomorrow for Big Bear trip day 2!!!  Cheers!
