Induction Into the Sewing Community: I Broke My First Sewing Machine Needle

I broke my first needle!

I have watched a slew of sewing tutorials and the majority integrate warnings of breaking a sewing machine needle.  There a ton of different reasons as to why one can break their sewing machine needle.   I feel pretty proud of myself that I made it through 3 projects, 5 completions total, before breaking a needle.

Now that I have broken my first needle I feel like my sewing machine has officially inducted me into the sewing community.  I can now say, “Oh, I can recall breaking my first needle like it was just yesterday…” yadayadayada.  I have a story I can share.  I made my first indent.

It feels good.  It must feel like those endorphins runners get on what those running folk call a “Runners High.”  I have never experienced such a thing.  I don’t run.  I might power walk on Black Friday, but even that is getting a little too close to being overheated.  Being a redheaded has its major pros and slight cons.  This being one of them.  You do the running and I will write you a story about the occasion.  (tangent alert)

I would also like to say that I find myself conflicted in anticipation of my next sewing machine needle breaking.  I am aware breaking a needle is caused by me doing something my machine did not like.  However, the action of the needle breaking is somewhat of a rewarding action that lets me know I am working hard.  So… my concluding thought is: Good thing sewing machine needles are relatively inexpensive!

Happy Friday everyone!
Cheers!!!
